It was a perfect setting matched by a delightful musical evening. Summer has not set in full force. The cool breeze of the evening created a soothing atmosphere as we stepped inside Mystic Yoga Cafe. The bright yellow walls adorned with wall paintings of Buddha, Buddhist flags and photographs of mountains made the setting all the more peaceful for a musical evening.
It was the launch of Inspirations – an initiative of Pankaj Mullick Music & Art Foundation. The initiative will work toward reviving, promoting and propagating the work of the yesteryear’s maestros and map how it has constantly influenced the works of successive generations of artists, with a focus on music and songs.
The program started with a brief introduction by MJ Arvind, the RJ known for his deep love and knowledge of retro music. The grandson and granddaughter in law duo of Pankaj Mullick kept the audience captivated with their invigorating performances. While Rajib Gupta, grandson of Mullick, shared snippets and stories, Jhinuk Gupta, the granddaughter in law, crooned melodious tunes created by the legend.
To provide a glimpse of Pankaj Mullick’s exemplary musical career Rajib shared several of his old stories of compositions, dating back to the time when he did his first recording at the age of eighteen to when he became a part of Indian cinema during the silent era. From his association with Tagore to introducing elements of Western Music to Indian cinematic & non-cinematic songs, Rajib and Jhinuk took the audience on a journey back to the age old Retro days.
The event ended on a positive note with promises to have such events at regular intervals. The event was supported byInfinity Group, Anant Education Initiative, Jagriti Dham and Aspex Care Wing, with Mystic Yoga Cafe as the venue partner.
