Kolkata’s only national chamber Indian Chamber of Commerce and Trustees of the ICC Calcutta Foundation conferred the 8th ICC Lifetime Achievement Award to Mrs. Sudha Murthy, Chairperson, Infosys Foundation on 25th March 2017 for her outstanding contribution in the field of Social Service and Writing at ITC Sonar, Kolkata.
Mrs. Sudha Murthy thanking everyone for the award said Kolkata is very close to her heart and whenever she comes to Kolkata she feels how well each streets are connected with the history of Indian.
Stating an inspiring instance she said – at the time when she joined the engineering college for her graduation, hardly few girls took up engineering. On her first day at the college, she found that there were no toilets for girls. Upon asking the principal/HOD why was there such a situation, he said hardly girls stay in the college or pursue the course completely, hence building a toilet for girls was an extra investment. This impacted her so much that after Mrs. Sudha Murthy started her social work, she made sure to solve this problem and today she has helped to build more than 14,000 (Fourteen Thousand) toilets in south India.
In the end Mrs. Sudha Murthy said “Paropakaram Artham Idam Shareeram” which means the body has been given to us in order to benefit others. The body is given for doing good to others. God is in our heart. The human body is a temple of God. All beings are visible and moving temples of a living God. Therefore, have the desire to serve God through all living creatures. Let your life be filled with this idea of doing good to others.
