The first ever Corporate Cycling Championship was organized at Salt Lake Sector V on August 13, 2017, to promote and initiate an awareness campaign – Clean and Green Sector V. The event was organized by Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA), in association with Cycle Network Grow, West Bengal Cycling Association, Salt Lake Sector V Stakeholders’ Association, and NASSCOM.
The event was flagged off by Shri. Firhad Hakim, Honourable Minister, Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Govt. of West Bengal, Shri. Sujit Bose, MLA, Bidhan Nagar, West Bengal, and Shri. Debasish Sen, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of West Bengal, IT Dept. & Chairman NDITA, at Nalban Fishery Food Park at 7 AM. Among the other dignitaries present during the flag-off ceremony was Shri. S. Radhakrishnan, President, Salt Lake Sector V Stakeholders’ Association, Shri. Kamal Agarwal Chairman, SME Council – EC, NASSCOM, Shri. A.K. Sood from Infinity Group and several others.
Over 300 participants, who are working professionals from Salt Lake Sector V, took part in three categories of cycle racing Fast Cycling, Slow Cycling, and Fun Ride. Some of the companies who participated were Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant, IBM, Accenture, Capgemini, IXIA, mjunction, Wipro, Infinity, PwC, TCG Digital and many more.
The inaugural ceremony began with a Rabindrasangeet, ‘Aloker Ei Jhorna Dharay’, presented by Smt. Jhinuk Gupta from Pankaj Mullick Music and Art Foundation. Also from the foundation, Shri. Rajib Gupta hosted and presented the entire event.

Shri. Debasish Sen, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of West Bengal, IT Dept. & Chairman NDITA, mentioned during the inaugural ceremony, “This is the first time that a Corporate Cycling Championship is being organized in Salt Lake Sector V to spread the message of a clean and green Sector V. We are already doing many events here like the Monthly Corporate Cultural Programme and to keep the spirit alive of our working professionals we will continue to do more in future. Moreover, in-line with the pledge of our Honorable Chief Minister to make Bengal green and clean, through initiatives like Corporate Cycling Championship I urge everyone to use fewer cars and more cycles to work in order to help reduce air pollution.”.
Shri. Sujit Bose, MLA, Bidhan Nagar, West Bengal, congratulated all the corporates for their overwhelming participation. “It is not important to win or to lose. What is most important today is that every participant here is a flagbearer of the message – Clean and Green Sector V. I thank each one of you for taking time out to come here today and show your support to the cause.”
Shri. Firhad Hakim, Honourable Minister, Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Govt. of West Bengal, said he was extremely happy to see the immense participation by over 300 corporates on a Sunday morning. “Many people say that there are facilities to pull out young crowd in Bangalore and other cities, but not in Kolkata. But, I think we should create interest of young people here by organizing more such events so that people here work with fun. I am sure more and more events will come that will add a lot of fun and also carry a social message and I urge everyone to be in Kolkata, be in Bengal and have fun as you work.”
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Shri. B.N.Kar, Executive Officer, Nabadiganta (NDITA).
3 winners, each from the fast and slow categories were felicitated with a certificate, medal and a memento by the Honorable Dignitaries. There was also a special category for women cycling, from which three winners were chosen and awarded.
